It is sturdy and the top opens up very smoothly - seems very sturdy.I put all our shoes in here and I sit on it when putting my shoes on in the morning before work - it's the perfect height for this.There is no installation (only screwing in the 4 wooden legs).The only drawback could be that this is fake leather so perhaps it won't last as long as real leather, but for the price this was really worth it.But it actually does look and feel like real leather.
